Nothing...I have nothing

It’s been quite a week: busy, hectic, as I’m sure yours has been. You know how it is. After a long hard day, you’re tired and you don’t want to do anything but just rest and relax, and try to refresh your life in some way. Well, that’s been me this week. How do you refresh your life? For me, it’s music:

It’s been an 80’s week! Rock ‘n Roll. Sentimental music that I’ve grown up with that takes me back to a simpler time when life was easy. Rock on!

Wait a minute! Why do I do this? Well, life is difficult. Besides the work week, there’s bills to pay. There’s commitments to follow through with. There’s things to let go (Cicily going away for a week at cheerleading camp....sigh) and other things to invest in (Heidi and the kids). It’s making time at the right time for the right reasons to accomplish the right things in life.  Yet, if I’m spent from the week and try to refresh my life with what I already have, I come to the end of me and realize I have nothing: wood, hay, and stubble that won’t matter much in eternity.

But when I look at Jesus. I realize he has everything and He is exactly what I need to fill the void of nothing.

"He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation; because by Him everything was created, in heaven and on earth, the visible and the invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities– all things have been created through Him and for Him. He is before all things, and by Him all things hold together.” Colossians 1:15-17

”And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.” Philippians 1:6

That’s why I take pleasure in my weaknesses, and in the insults, hardships, persecutions, and troubles that I suffer for Christ. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” 2 Corinthians 12:10

Jesus creates something incredible. Something that you cannot do in your own strength. He takes your nothing to create something extraordinary in you and maybe in someone else too!

You have nothing. Look to Jesus.

Clinging to the cross, G.
